Hi friends!
I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our little Hartholt clan...Ivy!
Rob and I have discussed getting a dog for several months now. We researched alot of different kinds of breeds and chose one that best suited us. We'd been keeping an eye out in the newspaper and on Kijiji for breeders advertising puppies for sale. We had been saving money specificially in our "puppy" fund so that when we decided it was time, we were prepared! On Thursday March 8th, I happened to browse Kijiji and found an add. I responded to the writer asking what genders and how old the puppies were. They informed me that they had 3 girls left and they were ready to go anytime. So, we made arrangements to go out on Saturday to look at the puppies and potentially take one home! That day, I took many training books out from the library so Rob and I could educate ourselves on what to expect for the first couple nights and also how to start training the puppy should we get one that weekend.
Well, Saturday came and neither of us could sleep in we were so excited. We did a few errands, made sure we had the money and all the starting tools for a puppy which we'd been collecting over the past few days and headed to Linwood. We arrived at the house around 1 pm and met a little Mennonite man who showed us to his barn. He apparently had been breeding dogs for close to 10 years. He had a beautiful set up room where we could chat with him and look in on all the dogs. He went into the room and picked up the remaining 2 Sheltie puppies and brought them to us. Each of us held one and instantly fell in love! Having to choose was so difficult, but the breeder was very patient and allowed us to ask many questions as well as see the dogs mom who was also on site. We put the puppies on the floor to see them move around, I knelt down and the littlest one came right up to me and started licking my nose. I knew that second that she had picked us! She became our Ivy.
She had a rough car ride home. Not because she was whining but because she got sick to her stomach. Now that she's getting settled in, she's the happiest most adorable puppy! She's incredibly intelligent and has picked up a couple of tricks already - and she's only 11 weeks old!
We absolutely love her! She makes us laugh all the time and has been the absolute best choice for a dog. We look forward to training her and loving her for a long time!
